Pewter coins I've made by casting in aluminum molds or struck with steel rod dies with the designs punched and engraved using hand engravers as well as a dremmel tool. For the hammered coins, a pewter disc is placed between 2 steel rods and struck with a hammer.

Well done. Aluminium is definately not a bad idea. Some of the above turned out really well.
